A native of Bosnia & Herzegovina, she graduated with her medical degree from the University of Tuzla Faculty of Medicine in 1987. Upon relocating to the United States she completed her residency in anesthesiology at the Northwestern University Medical School in 1992.

Anesthesiology is the medical specialty concerned with the total perioperative care of patients before, during, and after surgery. Anesthesiologists have a vast amount of responsibilities that include vigilant monitoring of the patient’s vital signs during surgery, managing acute pain, maintaining safety, and most importantly, acting as the patient’s advocate in the operating room.
