Get to know Ophthalmologist Dr. Mark J. Piotrowski, who serves patients in Arlington Heights, Illinois.

An experienced ophthalmologist, Dr. Piotrowski is a Partner at Suburban Associates in Ophthalmology, LLC. His special interests include LenSx laser-assisted refractive cataract surgery, eyelid surgery, glaucoma surgery, pterygium surgery, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration.

With seven board certified ophthalmologists, the team at Suburban Associates in Ophthalmology, LLC specializes in a wide variety of services beyond routine eye exams. This includes laser assisted cataract surgeries with astigmatism correcting and accommodating/multifocal lens implants, minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries, refractive vision-correction surgeries, and comprehensive pediatric eye care.

In regards to his educational background, Dr. Piotrowski holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Indiana University. He earned his medical degree at Rush Medical College in Chicago, after which he performed an internship and residency in ophthalmology at William Beaumont Hospital.

Among his professional affiliations, he is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the American Medical Association, the Chicago Medical Society, and the Illinois State Medical Society.

Correcting and enhancing patients’ vision, the doctor is board-certified in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO). The ABO is an independent, non-profit organization responsible for certifying ophthalmologists in the United States of America.

Professionally, Dr. Piotrowski is affiliated with AMITA Health Alexian Brothers Medical Center Elk Grove Village, and AMITA Health St. Alexius Medical Center Hoffman Estates.

Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine and surgery, which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders. Ophthalmologists are experts in the diseases, functions, and anatomy of the eye. They may provide routine care such as vision testing, as well as prescribe and fit eyeglasses or contact lenses. However, ophthalmologists are also surgeons. They repair traumatic injuries to the eye and perform cataract, glaucoma, and corneal surgery.
