What can a child eat after appendix surgery?

What do you attribute your success to?
- She attributes her success to being an immigrant from Havana, her parents instilled the importance of education as a young child. She knew by 8 years old that she wanted to serve in the medical field. She loves what she does and does the best she can.

Throughout her academic career, Dr. Casas-Melley’s journey in the medical field commenced with her medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia in 1991. Following this, she pursued an internship in general surgery at the same institution in 1997. Her commitment to pediatric surgery led her to complete her residency at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in 1999.
Subsequent to her education, the doctor attained board certifications in both general surgery and pediatric surgery by the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.
In order to stay up to date in her field, Dr. Casas-Melley is an active member of prestigious medical associations such as the American College of Surgery, American Pediatric Surgery Association, and American Academy of Pediatrics among others.
Pediatric surgery is a subspecialty of surgery involving the surgery of fetuses, infants, children, adolescents, and young adults. Pediatric surgeons are trained as general surgeons who then go on to get specialty training to perform surgery on children and neonates with various congenital and oncologic issues.
Among her most notable achievements, Dr. Casas-Melley has been recognized in the “Who’s Who in Medicine” in 2008, honored as a “Woman of Excellence” in the SME Women in Business awards in 2009, and acknowledged in the Consumer’s Research Council of America’s “Guide to America’s Top Surgeons” in 2010 for Pediatric Surgery. The University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine also bestowed upon her the Master Clinician Award in 2015 and the Faculty Service Award from the WIMS Group in the same year.
Outside of practicing medicine, she finds joy and relaxation in Disney Cruises. Moreover, she enjoys serving as the roadie for her children’s band and relishing the experience of watching them perform in musicals and plays.
