Get to know Ophthalmologist Dr. Susmitha P. Kolli, who serves patients in Lancaster, Ohio.

Dr. Kolli, an experienced ophthalmologist & a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, can be found on staff at Fairfield Medical Center in Lancaster, Ohio.

Serving more than 250,000 residents in Fairfield, Perry, Hocking, and Athens counties and employing more than 2,000 individuals, Fairfield Medical Center is proud of its role in the community. The 222-bed, nonprofit hospital provides full-service, general acute health services. Its ophthalmology team provides expert care for vision by diagnosing and treating a wide variety of eye conditions, including corneal and external disease, diabetic retinopathy evaluation and laser treatment, dry eye management, glaucoma evaluation and treatment, keratoconus evaluation, small incision cataract surgery, pterygium removal, and uveitis management.

A 1993 graduate of the Pritzker School of Medicine – Biological Sciences Division of the University of Chicago, Dr. Kolli went on to complete her internship in internal medicine at St. Joseph Hospital & Health Care Center. Wanting to further her training, she completed her residency in ophthalmology at Ohio State University Hospital.

Before long, the doctor became board-certified in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology, whose mission is to serve the public by improving the quality of ophthalmic practice through a process of certification and Maintenance of Certification that fosters excellence and encourages continual learning. 

Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine and surgery, which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders. Ophthalmologists are experts in the diseases, functions, and anatomy of the eye. They may provide routine care such as vision testing, as well as prescribe and fit eyeglasses or contact lenses. However, ophthalmologists are also surgeons. They repair traumatic injuries to the eye and perform cataract, glaucoma, and corneal surgery.
