Can X-ray radiations be harmful for pregnant women?
An X-ray of your hand is not likely to cause any harm to your fetus, particularly at six months. Most likely, you will be shielded during the time of the X-ray procedure. READ MORE
What are the tests to confirm bone marrow cancer?
A bone marrow biopsy is probably the best test to perform. This will give the most information. Sometimes, urine test and blood test can also be an adjunct. READ MORE
Open MRI
Open and closed MRIs have different capabilities. This partially depends on the manufacture. Open MRIs can of course be used with people who are terribly claustrophobic. Closed MRIs tend to give better imaging. They are somewhat more versatile and cover a larger range of imaging well. READ MORE
How can I ensure no other cancer cells are present in my body?
Unfortunately, my answer may surprise many. Each day we form small very insignificant numbers of cells which are either pre-cancerous or will become cancerous at some point. Our immune system usually takes care of these cells, which are not functioning normally. These immune cells are called killer T cells. They are an important part of maintaining our health and keeping us from having cancer. If our immune system is compromised with respect to these types of cells, we very likely will come down with a form of cancer of some type which will be able to thrive and be our undoing. READ MORE
Is skin cancer hereditary?
The short answer to this question is yes. People can carry genetic traits which make them more susceptible to skin cancers and other cancers as well. You can be tested for these genetic variants, but it is quite costly and may not be paid for by insurance. You will need to check with your doctor and your insurance company to see if this could be performed on you. READ MORE
Why is there blood from my nose and in my cough?
I’m sorry, this is probably a late answer to your question, but frequently people can have traces of blood from their nose and from their throat due to sinus infection. If this has not cleared up by now, you probably should see your doctor and perhaps be evaluated accordingly. READ MORE
Can an X-ray detect the cause of wheezing?
What you’re describing to me sounds like your child may have asthma. He could also have recurrent infections, which could set up chronic inflammation. This could potentially be causing him to have wheezing as well. X-rays or CBC with differential and serum evaluation could be helpful. I hope you get this under control. READ MORE
My son suffered from severe pneumonia 5 months back. Will the X-rays that were taken cause him harm in the long run?
The pneumonia that your son experienced is likely to have more of an influence on his life than any of the X-rays which were taken to follow the course of his disease. It is always best to keep X-rays at a minimum, but there are no guarantees in life. I hope your son is feeling much better now. READ MORE
Is radiotherapy required for breast cancer?
I have not heard of the term mudinous. It would probably be best to consult with your radiation therapist as to whether additional radiation therapy might be indicated. READ MORE
What is the difference between an X-ray and a CT scan?
A CT scan and chest X-ray are similar, but not identical. The overall dosage with a CT scan is higher than a chest X-ray. In the pediatric age groups, there are now algorithms to diminish the amount of radiation delivered to a young patient. This is still higher than the chest X-ray. The CT scan can give more accurate information regarding many things in the chest. The efficacy must be weighed by your pediatrician. READ MORE
