Get to know Ophthalmologist Dr. Tracy Wright, who serves patients in Maryland & Washington, D.C.

Well-established in the field of ophthalmology, Dr. Wright is affiliated with Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group and specializes in complex glaucoma and cataracts treatments. He sees patients at Kaiser Permanente Largo Medical Center in Maryland & Kaiser Permanente Capitol Hill Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

Through his practice, Dr. Wright has had the opportunity to work with patients from diverse backgrounds. He is a strong advocate for decreasing the barrier to patient education and preventive care in the field of ophthalmology.

Dr. Wright’s decision to become a physician began when he volunteered at a local hospital in Boston while attending college. Through this experience, he saw first-hand the life-changing difference that a caring doctor can make in turning a fearful patient into an optimistic one.

In 2009, Dr. Wright earned his medical degree from the Yale University School of Medicine. He completed his internship at Greenwich Hospital in 2010, followed by his residency in ophthalmology at the NYU School of Medicine in 2013. Finally, he completed his glaucoma fellowship at the renowned Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Florida.

Licensed to practice medicine in Maryland, Virginia, and District of Columbia, Dr. Wright is board-certified in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO). The ABO is an independent, nonprofit organization responsible for certifying ophthalmologists in the United States.

His professional affiliations include the American Glaucoma Society, the American Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.

On a more personal note, Dr. Wright spent his childhood in Tennessee before his family relocated to the Bethesda, Maryland area, where his parents and sister still reside. In his spare time, he enjoys playing basketball and swimming. He lives in Washington, D.C. with his dog, Morty, who exhibits a mild case of strabismus. 

Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine and surgery, which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders. Ophthalmologists are experts in the diseases, functions, and anatomy of the eye. They may provide routine care such as vision testing, as well as prescribe and fit eyeglasses or contact lenses. However, ophthalmologists are also surgeons. They repair traumatic injuries to the eye and perform cataract and corneal surgery.
