Back in the early days of his academic career, Dr. Boomer graduated with his medical degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in 1986. He then performed his residency at the same educational venue in 1989, and his fellowship in critical care medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 1992.

Holding triple board certification, the doctor is board-certified in internal medicine, pulmonology disease, and critical care medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM).
