  • Is this just a bruise or something more on my toenail?

If the discoloration is new, it is most likely from the hike. You can damage the nail and cause bleeding underneath, which will look like a reddish discoloration. It may turn darker with time. If the discoloration has been there a while and you can't connect its occurrence with activity or trauma, you would benefit from an in person evaluation by a podiatrist or dermatologist. READ MORE

  • Can chiropractors work on bunions?

Bunions are a structural deformity that take years to develop. The only way to correct a bunion is surgery. A chiropractor would not be able to help in that instance. If it only hurts in shoes, you may want to try wider shoes. READ MORE

  • What kind of anesthesia do they use for ankle surgery?

For ankle fracture surgery you will most likely need general anesthesia and also get some local anesthetic around the ankle. They can also perform a regional block to numb up your entire leg or a spinal anesthetic. Those decisions are up to the anesthesiologist and your surgeon. READ MORE

  • Is a chiropractor good for ankle pain?

A chiropractor may be good for ankle pain, but it also depends on what is causing the pain. Each profession (chiropractor, orthopedic surgeon, podiatric physician, etc.) may take a different approach to diagnosing and treating injuries. Keep in mind that chiropractors do not perform surgery so your treatment will be limited to within their scope of practice. Seeing a specialist that treats both surgically and non-surgically, such as a podiatric physician, will give you a more complete discussion of available treatment options. READ MORE

  • I have a cut in the inward side of my right foot?

The symptoms that you are describing correlate with a possible nerve injury. I would recommend seeing a foot specialist who can evaluate the area to determine the extend of the cut and if there is an underlying nerve injury. It is difficult to determine the source of your symptoms without a hands on evaluation of the injury. READ MORE

  • How to manage my foot pain?

Any time you have an injury that makes it hard to walk it is best to get it evaluated. You will need x-rays and a hands on evaluation. The tendency is to go to urgent care or the emergency room for these types of injuries, but it is always best to get in to see a foot specialists if possible. Given your medical conditions that you listed, it is very important to be seen in a timely manner. READ MORE

  • Starting of ingrown toenail?

An ingrown toenail occurs when the nail is physically cutting into the surrounding skin. The best way to treat this is to see a podiatric physician and they will remove the portion of the nail that is digging into the skin. The earlier it is treated, the better. Delaying treatment puts you at risk of developing an infection or further swelling, which will require a more invasive procedure to remove the ingrown nail. READ MORE

  • How long is the physical therapy after bunion surgery?

Physical therapy can vary depending on the bunion procedure. A typical time frame is usually twice weekly for 6 to 8 weeks. Speak with you surgeon directly to discuss more specific details of physical therapy or any other aspect of surgery. READ MORE

  • Red ankles?

For something such as this, a physician would need to evaluate your condition in person. Many skin conditions can look similar. Because of this it is imperative that you evaluated in person to determine the underlying condition. Your physician may prescribe a cream or if the condition is severe, a biopsy may be performed for a more accurate diagnosis. READ MORE

  • What’s up with my ankle?

The best way to treat any injury is to have a thorough evaluation by a specialist. X-rays will be taken to determine if there is a fracture. Even if there isn't a fracture, a soft tissue injury can linger for quite some time due to the amount of force going through your foot/ankle on a daily basis. If you are not able to see a physician, I would recommend icing the area and staying off of it as much as possible. You should ice 20 minutes every 2 hours. Do not ice longer as it can cause damage to the skin. If your pain has not improved within 7 days, I would definitely see a foot and ankle specialist to evaluate the area in more detail. With out a thorough examination it is difficult to determine the extent of injury based on a picture or description. READ MORE

  • Thick toenails that grow out extremely slowly?

When an ingrown toenail is treated surgically there are two different methods. Either the side of the nail is removed or the entire nail is removed. With either procedure there can be damage to the nail. That is why it is imperative to perform the procedure meticulously and with care. Even with great care these nail changes can happen, which is a risk of the procedure. Based on your description, the nail changes most likely happened from the procedure. The nail can take 12 months to grow out. If it has been shorter than this, I recommend that you let the nail grow out longer. If you are getting build-up, pain or other concerning symptoms, I would recommended you follow up with a specialist for evaluation and treatment recommendations. READ MORE

  • Do acupressure slippers work for relieving pain?

Based on your symptoms, you would need to be evaluated in person. Your symptoms may be nerve related and a thorough clinical exam is necessary in determining the underlying source of the pain, numbness and inflammation. READ MORE

  • Can heel pain be treated surgically?

  • I frequently get blisters on my feet when I wear shoes. Why does this keep happening?

Blisters from shoes typically happen from the shoes not fitting properly. This could be from the shoes being too small or too large. Depending on the location of the blisters the shoes could be causing pressure to certain areas. The only way to determine the underlying cause would be to have a specialist evaluate the fit of your shoes and evaluate your feet. READ MORE

  • How can I prevent foot issues?
