Get to know Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologist Dr. Paras B. Patel, who serves patients in Dallas and Flower Mound, and Texas.

Dr. Patel is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial pathologist, clinician, and educator. His breadth of training and experience shaped his approach to diagnosis and management of disease today. 

He spent several years in academia, then transitioned into private practice and established the Center for Oral Pathology, where he focuses on diagnosing and managing patients with a wide variety of oral diseases. “I grew up in a humanitarian-driven healthcare environment and patients are my highest priority, which makes our work at the Center for Oral Pathology so meaningful and exciting for me” expressed Dr. Patel.

In addition to developing and founding the Center for Oral Pathology, he has recently helped establish the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology at ProPath, where he currently serves as Director today.

ProPath is an internationally recognized practice of academic-quality expertise with private practice convenience and service. In addition to diagnosing patient cases every day, the physicians are also giving lectures and researching and writing medical abstracts, journal papers, books, and book chapters. 

Academically, Dr. Patel earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Howard University College of Dentistry in 2011. He then practiced in the Lubbock area with a community health center for a few years, serving as staff dentist on their mobile dental unit.

In 2014, he began his residency in oral and maxillofacial pathology at TAMU (Baylor) College of Dentistry. There, he was a full-time faculty member where he was also an active surgical pathologist in a busy biopsy service. He also maintained a clinical practice, seeing patients who suffered from various oral diseases in the college’s stomatology center.

A Fellow of the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, Dr. Patel is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology.

Dentistry, also known as Dental and Oral Medicine, is a branch of medicine that consists of the study, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases, disorders, and conditions of the oral cavity. Dentists diagnose and treat dental issues and help patients develop better oral hygiene regimens. They clean teeth, correct bite issues, perform surgeries and tooth extractions, and perform other duties to ensure that the teeth and mouth are healthy. 

Besides leading the Center for Oral Pathology, Dr. Patel is Associate Editor for the Texas Dental Journal.

Among his various accolades, he is the recipient of the Shafer Award – Highest Score on Fellowship Exam American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology (2017).
