“Today, I most enjoy the basic scientific research and clinical trials that will advance not only our knowledge of gastroenterology but the quality and effectiveness of our patient care. I believe in delivering nothing but the best care and service for everyone. Patients need the warmth and comfort of being treated by someone they can trust.” as stated by Dr. Mehta.
In order to stay up to date in his field, he remains a member of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases, and the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America.
In the early days of his academic career, Dr. Mehta earned his medical degree from the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College, Indore. Upon relocating to the United States, he went on to complete his internship and residency in internal medicine at Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons, Harlem Hospital Center. This was followed by a research fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology at SUNY Upstate Medical University, and a clinical fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse.
“I counted many physicians among my family members when I was young, so I had early exposure to the life of a physician. I was often able to join them at work in the hospital and learn from them. I was extremely fascinated with gastroenterology as a medical student and as a resident in internal medicine. The work of many clinicians and researchers in gastroenterology is a constant source of inspiration to me. It combines an analysis of procedures and medical knowledge that is unique.” as stated by the doctor.
Following his education, he became board-certified in both gastroenterology and hepatology by the American Board of Internal Medicine, a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
Gastroenterology is the branch of medicine focused on the digestive system and its disorders. A gastroenterologist is a physician who has extensive training in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders related to the esophagus, stomach, small intestines, colon, liver, pancreas, and biliary system.
In his spare time, Dr. Mehta enjoys playing tennis and ping-pong, spending quality time with his family, and photography.
