The doctor’s acclaimed career in medicine began after she earned her medical degree from the University of Baghdad in Iraq in 1968. Upon relocating to the United States, she went on to complete her residency in psychiatry and her fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at Wake Forest School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She also holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Sheffield.
