Back in 1980, Dr. Reed earned her medical degree from the Boston University School of Medicine. She then went on to complete her residency in internal medicine at the Henry Ford Hospital in 1983, and her fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell in 1987.

Recognized as a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP), the doctor attained board certification in hematology, medical oncology, hospice & palliative medicine, and internal medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Oncology is a branch of medicine that deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. A hematologist-oncologist is a physician who specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of cancer, malignant blood diseases such as leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma, and blood disorders such as iron-deficiency anemia, clotting abnormalities, hemophilia, sickle-cell disease, and a rare hematologic related syndromes, and diseases.
