Get to know Endocrinologist Dr. Surekha Perlman, who serves patients in Plano, Texas.

Recognized as an expert in the field of endocrinology, Dr. Perlman has very extensive experience in the treatment of endocrinological disorders, including polycystic ovarian syndrome, osteoporosis, hormone replacement, as well as thyroid, adrenal and pituitary disorders. At present, she practices at West Plano Diabetes and Endocrine Center, PA in Texas.

West Plano Diabetes and Endocrine Center, PA provides the highest level of adult endocrinological medical care in a private practice setting. The staff’s areas of expertise include diabetes, thyroid, osteoporosis, parathyroid, adrenal, pituitary, hormone replacement, and lipid management. They provide prompt consultative feedback to their referring physicians and use electronic medical records. For their patients, they offer onsite thyroid ultrasound and ultrasound-guided thyroid biopsies as needed to address thyroid disease and nodules, as well as bone mineral densitometry to assess osteoporosis.

Prior to relocating to the Plano area, Dr. Perlman practiced alongside Dr. Jeffrey H. Perlman in private practice of endocrinology and metabolism for a period of 12 years in West Texas. She also served as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at Mt. Sinai Medical Center and North Shore University Hospital in New York, and at Texas Tech Health Science Center in Odessa, Texas.

Among her professional affiliations, she is a member of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, the International Society of Clinical Densitometry, the American Medical Association, the American Medical Women’s Association, and the American Diabetes Association.

After obtaining her medical degree from Gandhi Medical College in India, Dr. Perlman successfully completed her residency in internal medicine at Lenox Hill Hospital/New York University Medical Center. She then went on to complete her fellowship in endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism at New York University Medical Center/Bellevue Hospital.

Following her education, the doctor became board-certified in internal medicine, endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism by the American Board of Internal Medicine, a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Endocrinology is a branch of biology and medicine dealing with the endocrine system, its diseases, and its specific secretions known as hormones. Endocrinologists have the training to diagnose and treat hormone imbalances and problems by helping to restore the normal balance of hormones in the body. The common diseases and disorders of the endocrine system that endocrinologists deal with include diabetes mellitus, as well as adrenal, pituitary, and thyroid disorders, among others.
