Get to know Surgical Oncologist Dr. Zubin M. Bamboat, who serves patients in Florham Park, New Jersey.
A board-certified surgical oncologist, Dr. Bamboat is the Director of General Surgical Oncology at Summit Health. His expertise includes using traditional and the latest minimally invasive techniques to treat patients with tumors of the esophagus, stomach, pancreas, liver, bile ducts, gallbladder, small bowel, colon and rectum. In addition, he has expertise in the treatment of skin cancers and soft tissue tumors (sarcomas).
"I believe in getting to know each patient and their particular cancer and educating them about their illness and discussing the pros and cons of various treatment options. I believe in a team approach to treating cancer such that each patient is evaluated by a multidisciplinary group of cancer experts in order to provide the highest level of care" expressed the doctor.
Holding a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Duke University, he earned his medical degree from the New York University School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in general surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and his fellowship in complex surgical oncology and tumor immunology at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
An expert in his field, the doctor is board-certified in complex surgical oncology and general surgery by the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.
In good standing with a number of professional organizations, Dr. Bamboat is an active member of the American College of Surgeons, the Society of Surgical Oncology, and the American Association of Cancer Research and Oncology Society of New Jersey. Surgical oncology is the branch of surgery applied to oncology. It focuses on the surgical management of tumors, especially cancerous tumors. A surgical oncologist removes the tumor and nearby tissue during surgery. He or she also performs certain types of biopsies to help diagnose cancer.
In 2009, Dr. Bamboat was the recipient of the Chairman's Award for excellence in basic science research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. In 2013, he was awarded with the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), Young Investigator Award for research on esophageal and stomach cancer. He has also been the recipient of the On-Time Doctor Award (2018, 2016), Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2018, 2016), and Patients' Choice Award (2018).
On a more personal note, Dr. Bamboat is a member of a medical mission team that travels each summer to South America to perform volunteer surgery on the underserved local population. In his free time, he enjoys playing golf and spending time with his family. Speaking several languages, he is fluent in English, Hindi, and Urdu.
