He was also an Assistant Clinical Professor of Orthopaedics at the University of California, Davis from 1991 until 2000. Furthermore, he was an active duty member of the United States Air Force from 1981 until 1991.
Dr. Samani earned his medical degree from the Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine in Iowa City, Iowa in 1983. He then went on to complete his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the Kansas School of Medicine in Wichita, Kansas, followed by his fellowship at the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, California in 1992. In addition, Dr. Samani has been on the Board of Governors at Shriners Hospitals for Children since 2004.
Dr. Samani is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (FAAOS). FAAOS is a post-nominal title used to indicate that qualified orthopaedic surgeons are members of the AAOS – an American professional organization of orthopaedic surgeons.
Dr. Samani is board-certified in orthopaedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS). Founded in 1934 as a private, voluntary, nonprofit, autonomous organization, the ABOS exists to serve the best interest of the public and the medical profession by establishing educational standards for orthopaedic residents and by evaluating the initial and continuing qualifications and competence of orthopaedic surgeons. Their mission is to ensure safe, ethical, and effective practice of orthopaedic surgery.
