At Eastside Heart and Vascular, the team of experienced cardiologists offer the latest advancements in cardiology, electrophysiology, vascular and cardiovascular surgery care. With 7 locations throughout Gwinnett and Walton County, patients in Atlanta Metropolitan area  have convenient access to the team of heart specialists for a full range of cardiac care services.  

Among his professional affiliations, Dr. Sims is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC) and a Fellow of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (FSCAI). Additionally, he is affiliated with Northside Gwinnett Medical Center- Lawrenceville, Northside Gwinnett Medical Center-Duluth and Eastside Medical Center – Snellville.

A 2001 graduate of Morehouse School of Medicine, Dr. Sims went on to complete his residency at the University of Florida – Shands Hospital.. Wanting to further his training, he was accepted for fellowships in cardiology and interventional cardiology at George Washington University. At George Washington University he was elected Chief Cardiology Fellow by his peers for his second and third year.

Following his training, the doctor became board-certified in interventional cardiology and cardiovascular disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine, a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. 

Interventional cardiology is the subspecialty of cardiology that deals specifically with the catheter-based treatment of heart diseases. The field includes the diagnosis and treatment of coronary artery disease, vascular disease. Dr. Sims performs radial left heart catheterization. Interventional cardiologists diagnose and perform various invasive procedures in treating cardiac disease. General cardiology: consultation, stress testing, echocardiograms, transesophageal echo, and electrocardioversion as well as vascular studies are  also performed by Dr. Sims and his staff.  

He performs innovative new procedures including Cardiomems implantation, bedside intravascular ultrasound in state of the art GE IGS 730 Discovery lab, CSI atherectomy and Impella implantation for severe heart failure, myocardial infarction and cardiogenic shock. 

Recognized as an expert in his field, Dr. Sims is the recipient of  Northside Gwinnett Hospital – Top Physician Award – 2016, On-Time Doctor Award (2018, 2020), Patients’ Choice Award (2018, 2020), Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2016, 2018, 2020) and Thomas F. Frist – Physician Humanitarian Award for Top Physician at Hospital Corporation of America (HCA)  – 2018.

Dr. Sims also Alumni of Queens University of Charlotte ware he played Soccer.  He attended Morehouse School of Medicine where he won the Internal Medicine Award, was a MSM Friends Scholar and Ty Cobb Scholarship recipient.  He was a former YMCA Branch Volunteer of the year and Board Member.  He is Currently the Chief of Medicine and Cath Lab Director at Eastside Medical Center in Snellville, Georgia.
