Dr. Paul is a board-certified, specialty-trained general cardiothoracic surgeon and a member of Summit Medical Group’s General Surgery team in Florham Park, New York. He specializes in the surgical treatment of lung cancer and other thoracic malignancies. 

As a surgeon who embraces the multi-disciplinary approach to cancer care, Dr. Paul strives to carefully explain all diagnostic and therapeutic options available, which enables his patients to get involved in their own care. He works collaboratively with members of Summit Medical Group’s oncology team including medical oncologists, pulmonologists, radiologists, pathologists, and radiation oncologists to ensure his patients receive the best, most advanced care possible.

In his current capacity, Dr. Paul also serves as the Director of Thoracic Surgical Services for the RWJ Barnabas Health System, and as the Section Chief of Thoracic Surgery at Saint Barnabas Medical Center. He specializes in the minimally invasive treatment of both malignant and benign thoracic disorders, including robotic approaches to lung and esophageal cancer. 

Previously, he served as an Associate Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery and was an Attending Surgeon in the Division of Thoracic Surgery at the New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center. He also held a secondary appointment in the Department of Health Policy and Research.

Before embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Paul received his undergraduate education from Yale University, after which he earned his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. He subsequently stayed in Boston to complete his residencies in general surgery and thoracic surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He also completed a research fellowship in cardiac surgery at the said establishment. 

A member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the doctor is board-certified in thoracic and cardiac surgery by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, which is an American surgical organization devoted to surgery of the chest. 

Moreover, he is board-certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery, an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge. 

Cardiothoracic surgery is the field of medicine involved in the surgical treatment of organs inside the thorax.
