Get to know Pain Management Specialist and Anesthesiologist Dr. Saqib Khan, who serves patients in Lakeland, Florida.

Dr. Khan, a board-certified pain management specialist and anesthesiologist, established his interventional practice – Pain Medicine, Inc. – in the Lakeland area in 1997. Throughout this time, he has personally seen over 50,000 patients and has performed over 30,000 different interventional pain procedures without complications and with good outcomes.

Some of the most common pain issues that this doctor treats include: neck and shoulder pain, arm and leg pain, headache, disc herniation, low back pain and sciatica, complex regional pain syndrome, myofascial pain syndrome, work-related injuries, cancer pain, spinal stenosis, stroke-related pain, and neuralia, among others.

Back in 1986, Dr. Khan earned his medical degree from King Edward Medical University in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. Upon relocating to the United States, he completed his residency in general surgery at the Medical College of Ohio, followed by his residency in anesthesiology at Stonybrook New York. Wanting to further his training, he completed his fellowship in acute & chronic interventional pain management at New York Medical College and his fellowship in critical care at the University of South Florida.

A Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians, he is board-certified in anesthesiology, critical care medicine, and pain medicine by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA). The mission of the ABA is to advance the highest standards of the practice of anesthesiology.

Pain management, pain medicine, pain control or algiatry, is a branch of medicine employing an interdisciplinary approach for easing the suffering and improving the quality of life of those living with chronic pain. A pain management specialist is a doctor who specializes in pain medicine, focusing on the evaluation, treatment, and prevention of pain.

Anesthesiology is the medical specialty concerned with the total perioperative care of patients before, during, and after surgery. It encompasses anesthesia, intensive care medicine, critical emergency medicine, and pain medicine. Anesthesiologists are physicians specializing in perioperative care, the development of anesthetic plans, and the administration of anesthetics.
