Monica M. Brito, MD, FACOG, is a seasoned obstetrician-gynecologist with over 20 years of experience in her field. She is currently affiliated with NYC Health+Hospitals/Harlem, as Vice Chair of the OB/GYN department. NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem is the largest hospital in Central Harlem and only Safety Net Hospital in Northern Manhattan. Striving to empower women of all ages and encourage personal growth, Dr. Brito specializes in high-risk pregnancies, abnormal menses, management of abnormal pap smears, and ultrasound evaluation of pelvic pathology. She also has a very high rate of vaginal deliveries, a point which she is most proud of.

As a woman, mother and wife, she has developed a great awareness for the impact of women’s health in society. She believes the most rewarding aspect of her job is to have the opportunity to bring comfort, encouragement, and hope to another human being.
Back in the early days of her academic career, Dr. Brito earned her medical degree from Universidad Central del Ecuador Facultad de Ciencias Médicas in Ecuador in 1994. Subsequently, she moved to the United States, where she completed her residencies in internal medicine and obstetrics and gynecology, both at New York University, Bellevue Hospital Center.
Prior to her work at NYC Health+Hospitals/Harlem, she was affiliated with Stamford Health Medical Group, Northeast Medical Group, Grinnell Regional Medical Center, and NYU Langone Medical Center.
A Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (FACOG), the doctor is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG). The mission of the ABOG is to define specialty standards, certify obstetricians and gynecologists, and facilitate continuous learning to advance knowledge, practice, and professionalism in women’s health.
On a professional level, Dr. Brito is an active member of several medical societies, including the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, the American Medical Association, the International Academy of Pelvic Surgery, and the Bellevue Obstetrical and Gynecological Society.
