  • Can pregnant women go see a chiropractor?

Pregnancy related back pain is very common and responds very well to manipulation. It is safe and effective up through delivery. READ MORE

  • Foot pain from tennis. What can a chiropractor do to help?

It depends on what is causing the heel pain. If it stems from tight or overworked leg muscles, then yes. Myofascial techniques are very helpful for this. If the pain stems from a heel spur or bone bruise, soft tissue therapies and/or passive modalities combined with foot exercises may still help. Imaging will be required to determine the latter. READ MORE

  • What is an adjustment like for a child?

Typically, most 12-year-olds don't experience back pain. Scoliosis is the most common cause of back pain in adolescent patients. The doctor would likely rule out scoliosis either by physical exam or X-ray. He would also evaluate for other causes of back pain based on her history. If it is scoliosis, this usually responds well to manipulation. If it is not, then perhaps a short trial of manipulation would be warranted to determine if her symptoms respond. READ MORE

  • I'm having pain along my spine. Will a chiropractor help me?

You would need an evaluation first to determine the source of your pain. If the evaluation shows that your symptoms are treatable by one of the many forms of treatment offered by chiropractors, then yes, it can help. If not, further imaging and possibly a referral would be in order. Most back pain, despite severity, responds well to conservative approaches. READ MORE

  • What is the ideal treatment for sciatica?

Sciatica is a general term of leg symptoms. The best treatment targets the cause of the symptoms and not the symptom itself. A proper evaluation should help to this end and will guide treatment recommendations including self-help strategies. READ MORE

  • I have a little pain in my calf muscles. What should I do?

If you think the muscle is torn, you should get an evaluation. The extent of the tear, if any, will determine the treatment recommendations. If you have a simple muscle strain, ice the first 3 days after, and then alternating ice and heat combined with stretching will do the trick. READ MORE

  • My son hurt his back in a football game. Is surgery or chiropractic care best for him?

X-ray would not show disc herniations as they only show bone. MRI may show disc herniations but this would be uncommon in a 15yo boy. Football injuries in young boys could include spondylolisthesis or spondyloslysis. Surgery is not the first line treatment unless there is severe disability or passive instability. I recommend an evaluation and a trial of care either from a good chiropractor or physical therapist. A brace may be in order, but a thorough evaluation is the best place to start. READ MORE

  • I had a car accident but I still have some body pain. Can a chiropractor help?

Car accidents often cause more injury than initially suspected. A chiropractor can help. Get an evaluation to determine the source of your continued symptoms. An MRI may be required depending on what the initial exam shows. READ MORE

  • What is the difference between an osteopathic physician and chiropractor?

Osteopath or DO can prescribe medicine and have become almost indistinguishable from MD. They originally had a more holistic approach to healthcare and this viewpoint depends on the doctor you see. They also manipulate but use a long lever approach where as chiropractors use a short lever approach. In general, chiropractors or DC do not prescribe as we do not much pharmacological training. Other than that either should be able to diagnose and/or treat you so it depends on preference. READ MORE

  • Can a chiropractor help me with my child's GERD?

I don't treat young children, but I know some chiropractors specialize in this demographic with good results. It definitely won't hurt your child, so it's worth a shot. READ MORE

  • Can chiropractic care help my diabetic neuropathy?

You would have to inquire. Manipulation will likely not help, but I have heard of some passive modalities helping. I don't have experience in this arena nor have I seen any literature to this end. Diabetic neuropathy is best helped by lifestyle changes and blood sugar control. READ MORE

  • What are the the best ways to relieve neck pain?

Try stretching and heat first. If that doesn't help consider visiting a chiropractor that uses soft tissue techniques. READ MORE

  • What can I expect with a herniated disk?

Official diagnosis can be a combination of physical exam findings and MRI results. Any form of neurologic deficit is a likely indicator. MRI is sometimes misleading because 80% of the population has asymptomatic disc herniations. Treatment will depend on the provider and what he finds. Probably best to look him up to get a better idea of what to expect from him. READ MORE

  • What can be done for my sciatica?

Treatment is determined by the primary pain generator. This strategy attacks the cause of the symptoms. Chronic symptoms can be treated at home with heat, NSAIDs, and stretching but if this is unhelpful an evaluation is in order. READ MORE

  • My son has tension in his legs from playing basketball. How can I help him?

If he feels tight, then more stretching may help. If he feels cramps, he may be dehydrated or may require a multivitamin to balance his electrolytes. If neither of these helps, perhaps there is something affecting either the foot, ankle, or knee that contributes to his symptoms, in which case an examination by a chiropractor, physical therapist, or sports medicine specialist is advised. READ MORE

  • What can I do to prepare for my adjustment?

No preparation is required unless you feel particularly anxious or apprehensive. If so, communicate with your doctor so you can work through a solution together. READ MORE

  • Should I go to a chiropractor for massage therapy?

If the chiropractic facility has a masseuse, that works. Otherwise, a masseuse is better for general massage. If you have a particularly troublesome spot, then a chiropractor who employs soft tissue therapies is ideal. READ MORE

  • I have severe whiplash from work. What is the treatment?

Most likely he will employ one or more of several treatment options including but limited to manipulation, stretching, heat, electric stimulation, ultrasound, low level laser. READ MORE

  • Do I need lifelong physiotherapy for sciatica?

Not likely. Symptoms resolve. Depending on the cause of your "sciatica" you may experience flare up that could require episodic short term care. READ MORE

  • Can chiropractors diagnose back conditions?

Yes chiropractors can help. Especially, one trained as primary spine care practioners. Referral requirements are set by your insurance plan. They can advise you better than I can. READ MORE
