Dr. Arthur J Greenwood M.D.
OB-GYN (Obstetrician-Gynecologist)
3000 Coliseum Dr. Hampton VA, 23666About
I honorably retired as a Lt Col from the Air Force in June of 2019. I am a board certified OBGYN who trained at Wake Forest Baptist Health in Winston-Salem, NC. My wife and two daughters are thrilled to be staying in Hampton Roads Virginia. We love it here! I look forward to continuing to care for Veteran’s and their family members and have a special understanding of the stressors associated with military service.
I understand that many women have dealt with their gynecologic problems sometimes for months or even years and that by the time they meet me they have had multiple appointments for the same problem. Many times they have accommodated and adapted to their illness despite how debilitating it can be.
Hysterectomies
I specialize in minimally invasive surgery and have additional training in Single Incision Laparoscopic Hysterectomy. I brought leading edge technology to the operating room utilizing 3D laparoscopic technology. Using 3D single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery we are able to perform minimally invasive hysterectomies of large fibroid uteri that would otherwise require five abdominal skin incisions with the DaVinci robot or one large vertical incision for an abdominal hysterectomy. My technique reduces post operative pain and recovery time and reduces the risk of skin infections and hernias by reducing the number and size of incisions. My goal is to correct patients’ problems and help return them to a normal lifestyle as quickly as possible.
Obstetrics
Obstetrics can be the most rewarding part of my work. I am dedicated to reducing the maternal morbidity and mortality that has been increasing in our country. I believe in order to achieve this goal I must carefully listen to my patients and treat them as individuals rather than a case from a textbook. Individualized risk Assessment and individualized care is critical to reduce pregnancy complications in this country. For my pregnant patients I do everything I can to allow for natural childbirth and only step in to avoid injury to the mother or her baby. I understand that the birth process is not about me, but rather it is a once and a lifetime experience for the parents. I'm am blessed to be allowed to experience their joy.
Menopause
I also recognize menopause to be a life altering condition that equally deserves attention. I benefited from training at Wake Forest Baptist Health where our Chairman was a leader in the treatment of and research on menopause.
