  • Big drop in nearsightedness prescription at age 60...

Certainly possible to change that much in 1 year. Did your Dr. mention cataracts? That would the most common culprit. The only component in a 6o year old eye that can change the power of glasses is the lens of the eye, which is where cataracts form. That change is power will effectively give you more reading power than you had before. Increasing the add power will increase the chage even more. I personally would leave the add at +2.25. if you are getting your glasses from your Dr. then if you have a problem, that Drs office should make it right. If you are getting glasses from someone else, make sure they will redo the lenses if the Dr. needs to change things. READ MORE

  • Can you get an infection from wearing contacts for over a month?

It's extremely dangerous overwearing your contact lenses, even if approved for extended wear. All that mucous and debris you pick up over this time is food for bacteria. • How often should you change contacts?

It depends on the type of lens. Basically follow your doctor's or manufacturer's recommendation. If it's a Daily lens, then 1 day. If it's Acuvue, then it's 2 weeks, all others 1 month. Overwear is asking for trouble. Get Outlook for iOSREAD MORE

Optometry is a health care profession that involves examining the eyes and applicable visual systems for defects or abnormalities, as well as diagnosing and managing eye disease. Optometrists are healthcare professionals who provide primary eye care through comprehensive eye examinations to detect and treat various visual abnormalities and eye diseases. Being a regulated profession, an optometrist’s scope of practice may differ depending on the location. Thus, disorders or diseases detected outside the treatment scope of optometry (i.e. those requiring certain surgical interventions) are referred out to relevant medical professionals for proper care. Optometrists typically work closely together with other eye care professionals, such as ophthalmologists and opticians, to deliver quality and efficient eye care to the general public.

Outside of his professional life, Dr. Horner enjoys woodworking. He is also a 50-gallon donor at the Red Cross Blood Bank, and has served on the Board of Directors at the YMCA, Kiwanis Club of North Modesto, and the American Diabetes Association.
