Get to know Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon Dr. Anthony Pavone, who serves patients in West Nyack, New York.

Dr. Pavone, an award-winning oral and maxillofacial surgeon, is the Founder of Pavone Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, PC in West, Nyack, New York.

An expert in advanced surgical techniques, Dr. Pavone utilizes and has lectured on computer-guided surgery and CT technology. Both of these technologies have allowed surgeons more exact correction of facial and jaw trauma, jaw defects, jaw growth anomalies, and more precision placement of dental implants.

In addition to full time oral surgery practice, he is on the surgical staff of Nyack Hospital. 

Born in Fairfax County, Virginia, his family moved to Syracuse, New York in 1978. Dr. Pavone was raised in Liverpool, New York, a suburb of Syracuse.

He attended Cornell University in Ithaca, as a student athlete, and received his Bachelor of Science degree in May of 1995. He majored in Genetics and Development and achieved Dean’s List designation. Additionally, he was inducted into the prestigious Red Key Society, which recognizes academic and athletic excellence in student athletes. 

His achievements at Cornell University included those on the lacrosse field as well. During the 1995 lacrosse season, he led NCAA Division 1 lacrosse in scoring, accumulating the most total points, most points per game, most total assists, and most assists per game. He led Cornell lacrosse to the NCAA tournament and his 1995 team finished ranked #10 in the country. He was selected NCAA Division 1 All America in Lacrosse. Ivy League honors included unanimous First Team All Ivy League selection, Academic All Ivy League, and he was recognized for outstanding athletic and academic achievement receiving the C.F. Morse Cornell Lacrosse Athlete of the Year Award in 1995.

In May of 2000, Dr. Pavone graduated from New York University College of Dentistry with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. He was Valedictorian of his dental school class of more than 400 students.  He was honored with the following awards for academic excellence: the Kauffman Award, the NYU College of Dentistry Alumni Award, and the Alpha Omega International Fraternity Award, each of which recognizes academic excellence and overall #1 academic ranking. Additionally, he received the American College of Dentists Outstanding Leader Award, given to one graduating dental student.

Thereafter, he attended New York University Grossman School of Medicine and received his medical degree in May of 2004. He completed specialty training in oral and maxillofacial surgery, as well as a full year of general surgery training at NYC Health + Hospitals / Bellevue in New York City. Additionally, he received advanced training in General Anesthesia.

Distinguished as an exceptional surgeon by his peers within the medical community, Dr. Pavone is board-certified through the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS). The mission of the ABOMS is to assure the public of safe and optimal care through the development and maintenance of high standards of certification and recertification of Diplomates in the specialty.

In addition to being a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), he is a member of the Dr. William F. Harrigan Society (as President), the American Medical Association, the American Dental Association, the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the New York State Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the Bergen County Dental Society, the Alpha Omega International Dental Fraternity, and the Rockland County Dental Society.

Believing strongly in serving his community, Dr. Pavone volunteers for Donated Dental Services (DDS). The New York State Dental Foundation and the National Foundation of Dentistry provide this amazing service for the Handicapped, linking volunteer dentists, oral surgeons, and dental laboratories throughout New York with elderly, disabled and medically compromised individuals who cannot afford needed dental and oral surgery treatment.

From July of 2006 until June of 2014, he was a dedicated team member of the Craniofacial Team at Jawonio. In Rockland County, Jawanio is the Center for People with Disabilities and Special Needs. The Craniofacial Team received the New York State Speech and Hearing Award in 2010 and each team member was individually honored with the Jawonio Friends Award in October of the same year.

Oral and maxillofacial surgery specializes in surgery of the face, mouth, and jaws. It is an internationally recognized surgical specialty. Oral and maxillofacial surgeons are dental specialists who treat conditions, defects, injuries, and esthetic aspects of the mouth, teeth, jaws, and face. Their training involves a four-year graduate degree in dentistry and the completion of a minimum four-year hospital surgical residency program.

Throughout his career, Dr. Pavone has volunteered for numerous outreach programs with special interest in cleft lip and palate surgery.  His volunteerism has led him to Columbia, South America as part of the Healing the Children Cleft Lip and Palate Outreach Program. He also visited Campeche, Mexico, again part of a Cleft Lip and Palate surgical team.  

The NYU College of Dentistry Oral Health Outreach Program selected him twice to travel to and deliver needed dental and oral surgery care to underserved communities in the Dominican Republic; first as a student dentist, and then a second time as serving as the oral surgery faculty member.

Happily married, he lives in New Jersey with his wife, Jennifer, and two children, Addison and AJ. His hobbies include lacrosse and hockey.
