Her journey into medicine began after she obtained her medical degree from the Central University of Venezuela Razetti School of Medicine in 2003. Upon graduation, she relocated to the United States where she performed a pre-internship in cardiology at Jackson Memorial, then an internship in Internal medicine at Geisinger Medical Center. Cardiology is a branch of medicine that deals with the disorders of the heart, as well as some parts of the circulatory system. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, and electrophysiology. Cardiologists are doctors who diagnose, assess, and treat patients with diseases and defects of the heart and blood vessels (the cardiovascular system).

When asked what advice she would give to a patient looking to find a provider in her speciality, Dr. Capriles answered, “Looking for a cardiologist is like looking for a long term relationship; there has to be trust and confidence that decisions made are for the patient’s best interest.”
