Get to know Hospitalist Dr. Waldo Herrera Novey, who serves patients in Evanston, Illinois.

An experienced hospitalist, Dr. Novey is affiliated with NorthShore Medical Group, seeing patients in Evanston, Illinois.

NorthShore Medical Group is a not-for-profit organization principally formed to provide quality healthcare services for the communities it serves. The delivery of healthcare services is provided in a wide range of inpatient and ambulatory healthcare settings, communitywide, employing modern technology and expertise. Graduating with his medical degree from the Universidad de Panamá Facultad de Medicina in 2002, Dr. Novey earned his Master of Science degree in Surgical Science at the University of London Imperial College of Science in the United Kingdom in 2006. After relocating to the United States, he completed his internship and residency in internal medicine with the Cook County Health and Hospitals System in 2012, and served as Chief Resident at the Mount Sinai Hospital Medical Center of Chicago in 2013. Finally, he completed his Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree at the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University.

Passionate about his profession, the doctor is board-certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Achieving fellowship status, he is a Fellow of both the American College of Physicians (FACP), and the Society of Hospital Medicine (SFHM).

Continuously advancing his efforts, Dr. Novey is an active member of the American Medical Association, the Chicago Medical Society, the American Association of Physician Leadership, the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians, the American College of Physician Advisors, and the Association of Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialists.

Hospital medicine is a medical specialty that exists in some countries as a branch of internal or family medicine, dealing with the care of acutely ill hospitalized patients. The primary focus is caring for hospitalized patients and co-management with other specialties. Hospitalists take an active part in medical care and ensure a safe discharge for the patients they take care of. They are being increasingly involved in administrative roles, given their expertise and collaboration with various teams in the hospital.

On a more personal note, he is fluent in both English and Spanish.
