Dr. Matera, a fellowship-trained reproductive endocrinologist and infertility specialist, has always been committed to women’s health as a whole, both physically and emotionally, through all stages of life. Her clinical interests include infertility, recurrent pregnancy loss, care for the transgender patient, menstrual dysfunction at all ages, menopause and hormone replacement therapy, as well as overall wellness from the teenage years to maturity.

In affiliation with the NYU Langone Medical Center in New York City, she strives to deliver individualized, thorough, and thoughtful care to each woman and provide the most up-to-date, but also scientifically proven, medical treatments. The NYU Langone Medical Center is one of the nation’s premier centers of excellence in healthcare and medical research, and provides a range of superb clinical care matched by few centers world-wide.

Alongside her clinical role, Dr. Matera serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the New York University Grossman School of Medicine.

Prior to her current endeavours, she served as one of the founding physicians of Madison Women’s Health and Fertility, a full service gynecology, infertility, and reproductive endocrinology practice on the upper east side of Manhattan.

From 1992 until 2016, Dr. Matera maintained her academic appointment at Columbia University and the NewYork–Presbyterian Hospital. From 1996 to 2000, she was the Medical Director of the Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Clinic at Columbia University, the longest functioning infertility clinic in the metropolitan New York City area. Since 2000, she has worked together with the New York University Langone Fertility Center as a satellite center for IVF, Donor Egg, and Egg Freezing treatments for her private practice and in 2017 changed her academic affiliation to the NYU Langone Medical Center. She continues to teach residents and medical students and to mentor undergraduate students from Boston College and young Italian American women through the National Organization of Italian American Women.

Among her professional affiliations, she is a member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, and the New York Society for Reproductive Medicine.

On the subject of her academic career, Dr. Matera earned her medical degree from the New York University Grossman School of Medicine in 1986. She then went on to serve her residency in obstetrics and gynecology and her fellowship in reproductive endocrinology at the Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1990 and 1992, respectively.

Following her education, the doctor became board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology & reproductive endocrinology and infertility by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG). The ABOG is a non-profit organization that provides board certification for practicing obstetricians and gynecologists in the United States and Canada.

Reproductive endocrinology and infertility (REI) is a surgical subspecialty of obstetrics and gynecology that trains physicians in reproductive medicine addressing hormonal functioning as it pertains to the reproduction, as well as the issue of infertility. While most REI specialists primarily focus on the treatment of infertility, reproductive endocrinologists are trained to also evaluate and treat hormonal dysfunctions in females and males outside after the reproductive years.

An authority in her field, Dr, Matera has received numerous teaching awards and is regularly cited as one of New York City’s Finest Physicians by Castle Connolly, Marquis Publication Board, Strathmore’s Who’s Who and New York Magazine, and as a Top US Reproductive Endocrinologist/Infertility by US News and World Report in 2011. She has published numerous peer-reviewed scientific articles on topics including placental function, complex neuroendocrine hormone regulation, ectopic pregnancies, and hysteroscopic surgery.
