Get to know Family Physician Dr. Lamont A. Tyler, who serves patients in Bloomington, Illinois.

Respected for his practice of family medicine in the Bloomington, Illinois area, Dr. Tyler has led the PromptCare staff at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center since 2004. He oversees the urgent care practice as Medical Director. 

Designed as walk-in clinics, the PromptCare locations allow the doctor and his highly trained staff to handle sudden medical issues while working closely with the patient’s primary care physicians. They provide care for injuries and minor illnesses that do not require an emergency room visit, and perform physicals for children attending school or trying out for various sports teams.

In regards to his educational background, Dr. Tyler earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Loyola University - Chicago. He graduated with his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine at Midwestern University in 1986.

Distinguished as a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians (FAAFP), the doctor is board-certified in family medicine by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians, which is an organization that provides board certification to qualified osteopathic physicians who specialize in delivering comprehensive primary care for patients of all ages, genders, and addressing all parts of the body.

Professionally, he is an active member of the American Academy of Family Medicine, the American Academy of Urgent Care Medicine, and the Illinois Academy of Family Medicine.

An expert in the medical industry, Dr. Tyler is frequently quoted in the news media regarding multiple issues including the need for regular health screenings to detect cancer, diabetes, and other diseases that can be identified prior to symptom presentation.

Family medicine is a medical specialty devoted to comprehensive health care for people of all ages. The specialist is called a family physician or family doctor. A family physician is often the first person a patient sees when seeking healthcare services. They examine and treat patients with a wide range of conditions and refer those with serious ailments to a specialist or appropriate facility.

A regular contributor to speaker panels, Dr. Tyler has discussed topics including “Hypertension – Diagnosis and Treatment,” and “Treatment of Strep Pharyngitis.” He has received nominations for Illinois Family Physician of the Year in 1990 and 1991.
