  • Can a deep cleaning stop gum recession?

There are reasons why you have gum recession. One of the most common reasons for recession is periodontal disease. Periodontal disease is a bacterial infection causing erosion of the bone. Therefore a deep cleaning will remove the bacteria and help to reduce or stop the infection. If the infection is stopped then yes it will stop further recession. Other reasons for recession can include brushing too hard, genetically thin gum tissue, grinding or clenching etc. READ MORE

  • Can I take pain medications after a root canal?

Yes most Endodontist will prescribe pain medications for pain management. Ibuprofen and Tylenol will also help. READ MORE

  • Is Invisalign comfortable?

Yes very comfortable and convenient. It is not for every type of patient. Its dependent on how extreme your bite is. However, it has great results and easy to wear. READ MORE

  • Can braces cause jaw pain?

Yes! Your bite is changing which can cause your jaw to change. Most jaw pain is caused from muscles. I recommend ibuprofen, heat and massaging all the muscles around both jaw joints. Usually, jaw pain induced by braces is temporary. READ MORE

  • Can dental crowns cause gum disease?

Gum disease is caused from bacteria so a crown would not be the cause. However, the crown has a margin where it contacts your original tooth. Sometimes bacteria builds up more around a crown than a normal tooth. Also, if a crown has to be very deep, it can also allow for more bacteria to build up. Its extremely important to clean around a crown even more than a natural tooth. I recommend a sonic care toothbrush, water pick, flossing and mouthwash to clean the bacteria around a crown. • How long after the implant will I get a crown?

This is dependent on the dentist that placed it. In my office, we wait 3 months then reevaluate the implant. If everything looks good, then we start the impression for the crown and it takes about a week for the crown to come back from the lab. In the past, it use to be 4 months but I have heard as short as 2 months. READ MORE

  • Can a root canal cause any health issues?

There are a lot of questions regarding this topic because of Netflix and social media. I am not aware of health issues due to a root canal. However, if a tooth is infected, there are major health ramifications if a dental infection is not taken care of including stroke and heart attacks. If you have a dental infection inside the tooth, there is only 2 ways to resolve the infection, a root canal or an extraction. So in my professional opinion, I would rather have a root canal to stop infection. READ MORE

  • How do you put a crown on an implant?

There are three parts to an entire implant. The implant, the abutment and the implant crown. The actual implant is a titanium screw that goes into the bone and it is hollow in the middle. This allows an abutment to screw into the implant. The abutment is the foundation for a crown that sticks up above the gum tissue to allow the crown to sit on it. [image0.jpeg] READ MORE

  • Can you do bone graft and implant at the same time?

The short answer is yes but its more complicated than that. Bone grafts should be done at the time of extraction however when I place an implant, I sometimes place bone graft is some areas to give my implant extra support if there is a pocket of bone that needs to be filled. READ MORE

  • How long does a zirconia dental bridge last?

Insurance company’s usually replace a bridge of any material around 5-7 years. That’s what they feel an average life span of a bridge is. There are many reasons why a bridge fails; it gets decay under the bridge, the material fails, the tooth holding in the bridge gets infected, periodontal disease, the bridge is done incorrectly. A good healthy bridge can last someone the rest of their life. My mom Have a 45 year old bridge in her mouth that has never caused a problem. Zirconia is a very strong material but if you’re a heavy biter, it can cause it to break. However, if the bridge is done correctly and the patient takes care of the bridge, the material doesn’t matter as much. READ MORE

  • What can I do for gingivitis?

Gingivitis is a fancy term for bacteria in her gum tissues. There are several options for gingivitis. A good cleaning with your dentist and great home care including, brushing, flossing, water picks and mouthwash can help reduce the bacteria and reduce or eliminate gingivitis. Other gingivitis is chronic and may bee extra help from a dental professional including treatments like Laser or antibiotic irrigation. • Can flossing damage a crown?

A crown is much strong than Floss. The only damage I have ever seen floss do to a crown is cause it to be uncemented. READ MORE

  • What can you eat with dentures?

Initially it will be hard to eat anything. You need to relearn how to chew with your new denture. With dentures it is a plate so you have to divide your food and eat with both sides. Also understand that its a prosthetic, so just like a prosthetic hand, it can do a lot of same functions but its not the same as the original. Essentially, you can eat most foods, its just learning how to eat. I have patients that eat apples and steak because they learn how to eat those foods. I would say stay away from the food that are bad for your teeth like ice and hard nuts, those wont be able to be chewed well with your denture. READ MORE

  • How long will I have gum pain getting dentures?

Usually gum pain when you get dentures is from the dentures rubbing. I recommended that you get the dentures adjusted. However, your gums do take time to adjust to the pressure of a denture and the gums tissues need to thicken to accommodate the new pressure. It usually takes 6-8 weeks READ MORE

  • Can Invisalign give you jaw pain?

Yes is the short answer. There are many reasons why you may have jaw pain. Most likely its muscle related. I recommend heat, ibuprofen, massages and time. READ MORE

  • What are the do's and don'ts after a root canal procedure?

Theres not a lot of restrictions after a root canal from the actual surgery. Its mostly managing pain and also if you have a final restoration on the tooth like a crown or a filling after the root canal is done. Many times dentists will leave you in a temporary crown or filling. If thats the case, be very careful in what youre eating. No hard crunchy food or sticky chewy foods. If you have a final filling or crown on the root canal tooth, then its mostly managing discomfort. So if your tooth is hurting, giving it time and not over using it. It can takes several weeks for the discomfort to go away. READ MORE

  • How many hours a day should I wear dentures?

Essentially you can wear your dentures as often as you feel comfortable. As a dentist I recommend wearing your dentures all day because your tissue mold into your denture and the more your wear them, the more they feel natural. However, it is imperative that you remove your denture at night. Your gums still need air to heal and remove bacteria from your gums. So the gum tissues need at least 8 hours of time with out denture to be healthy. READ MORE

  • How quickly can teeth be straightened?

It depends on how crowded your teeth are when you start and what type of orthodontics youre using. So in general it can take 3 months to 6+ years to get teeth aligned. READ MORE

  • Are root canals more painful than fillings?

It depends. Normally you should be numb and then you shouldn’t feel any difference between a root canal or a filling. However, if you need a root canal, it means that the tooth is usually infected. Infection is very acidic and can keep anesthetic from getting your tissue numb. Your dentist or Endodontist should have techniques to numb you more substantially or place you on antibiotics to aid in this. READ MORE

  • Oral Issue

A bump in the mouth can be many things from a traumatic lesion, virus, clogged salivary glands, infection, etc. so it’s hard to explain what to do. Salt water helps to dehydrate the lesion. There are several OTC products that can be used to help sooth a lesion until it heals. Orajel, anbesol, Kana-a etc. Normal lesions should resolve in 2 weeks. If you bump doesn’t heal in 2 weeks, see you dentist. READ MORE
