Get to know Dermatologist Dr. Birgit K. Toome, who serves patients in New Jersey.

Dr. Toome has been practicing both cosmetic and general dermatology for over 25 years. She is a part of the team of professionals at The Derm Group, seeing patients at the offices in Egg Harbor Township and Marlton, New Jersey.

Treating all diseases of the skin, hair, and nails, her expertise includes laser surgery for sun damage, acne scars, and broken blood vessels. She performs skin cancer screenings and surgery, remaining passionate about keeping her patients’ skin both healthy and beautiful. She is also a leader in her field for Botox and fillers for the aging face and has served as an educator for various injectables.

Back in the early days of her academic career, Dr. Toome graduated with her medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in 1986. She then went on to complete her residency in dermatology at the University of Rochester in New York.

Following her training, the doctor attained board certification in dermatology through the American Board of Dermatology (ABD). The ABD is a voluntary, non-profit, private, autonomous organization formed for the primary purpose of protecting the public interest by establishing and maintaining high standards of training, education, and qualifications of physicians rendering care in dermatology.

Achieving fellowship status, Dr. Toome is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and a Fellow of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery.

Dermatology is the branch of medicine dealing with the skin, the largest organ of the body; a specialty with both medical and surgical aspects. A dermatologist is a specialist doctor who manages skin diseases and deals with both internal and external causes and some cosmetic concerns involving the skin. Dermatological duties include taking consultations, providing screening tests, and undertaking non-invasive surgical procedures.
