Back in 1971, Dr. Stanowicz graduated with his medical degree from State University of New York Medical School. He completed his internship in internal medicine at the University of California Irvine, and his residency in dermatology at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he was chief resident. 

For over two decades, he has been a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of California, Irvine, teaching dermatologic surgery. He is also board-certified through the American Board of Dermatology, which is a voluntary, non-profit, private, autonomous organization formed for the primary purpose of protecting the public interest by establishing and maintaining high standards of training, education, and qualifications of physicians rendering care in dermatology.

With an interest in surgical dermatology, especially treatment of skin cancer, Dr. Stanowicz is a member of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (Fellow), the American Academy of Dermatology (Fellow), and the American College of MOHS Micrographic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology.
