  • What happens when hips are out of alignment?

Imagine if your car was out of alignment. It places great stress on the ball joints and tires causing premature wear. A similar situation occurs with hip misalignment or subluxation. It places stress on the sacroiliac joints, the actual ball and socket hip joints and since the pelvis is the foundation of your spine, the spinal joints. A short leg can result which then causes even more stress on these areas as well as the knees and ankles. So the hips are very important to the structure of the body. • Can you help with heel pain?

Thanks for the question. I would suggest you see a podiatrist. It could be anything from plantar fasciitis to a heel spur. Jay H Schwartz, DC, DIBCN, DIBE READ MORE

Depends on the cause. If muscular, perhaps. Chances are it is tendon or joint so most likely, no. Sorry. Jay H Schwartz, DC, DIBCN, DIBE READ MORE

  • Can I exercise with sciatica?

Thanks for the question. Before exercising I would want to diagnose it so that you could receive proper treatment to eliminate it and I wouldnt want to possibly irritate the problem with exercise. Hope this helps. Jay H Schwartz, DC, DIBCN, DIBE READ MORE

  • What can you not do with a back disc hernia?

Anything that increases intraspinal pressure is not good for herniated discs. So exercises like leg lifts should be avoided. Heavy lifting and proper spinal mechanics need to be practiced. Avoid sitting for periods longer then 20 min without getting up Hope this helps. Jay H Schwartz, DC, DIBCN, DIBE READ MORE

  • Neck pain

Hi It could be one of the two possibilities you mentioned. You may have slept in an odd position for a long time resulting in spasm. In that case, it should disappear in 24-48 hours using a combination of alternating ice and heat. Otherwise it is a more serious condition that should be evaluated by a chiropractic neurologist. • What exercises are good for back pain?

Tough question to answer because I know nothing about your condition. In most cases you shouldnt be exercising because exercise doesnt relieve low back pain. If you develop a cavity because you eat excessive amounts of sugar, stopping sugar intake wont fix your cavity. If you insist on exercising , abdominal strengthing through leg lifts and sit-ups along with back extension exercising are good primary exercises to start with. If they cause any pain whatsoever you should discontinue them. Jay H Schwartz, DC, DIBCN, DIBE READ MORE

  • Can you fix lower back pain?

Hmmm. I need much more information. It depends on the cause. There are certain causes of lower back pain such as muscle strains or ligament sprains that can be fixed and there are causes such as disc problems that are not necessarily corrected but can be managed so that a person can lead a fairly normal life. This is why diagnosis is most important and the worst things you can do is take pain meds to cover up the pain or go to a massage therapist who doesnt diagnose or any doctor who doesnt seek the cause of your pain and either writes a prescription or lies you down a table to perform a procedure without understanding the cause. Hope this helps. Sincerely, Jay H. • What position should you sleep in if you have lower back pain?

Best position is on your side in the semi fetal position. 2nd best is on your back with a small pillow under your back and under your knees. This isnt a third position. Get to know Chiropractic Neurologist Dr. Jay H. Schwartz, who serves patients in Bradenton, Florida.

With over 40 years of experience in the field, is there anything Dr. Schwartz hasn’t seen, first in NY and now at SunCoast SpineCare Chiropractic Neurology, located in Bradenton, Florida?   Dr. Schwartz received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Brooklyn College, and graduated with his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from the New York Chiropractic College. His neurology post-graduate work was done at Northwestern Health Sciences University.

Jay H. Schwartz, DC, DIBCN, DIBE has dedicated himself to staying up-to-date with the latest procedures and techniques, allowing him to achieve excellent results with various conditions, particularly herniated, bulging, and degenerated discs in the neck and lower back, as well as Peripheral Neuropathy. One of his notable certifications is in Cox Cervical and Lumbar Distraction, specialized chiropractic procedures that involve the use of specific equipment to address neck and arm pain, as well as lower back and leg pain caused by disc and joint problems.

In addition to his expertise in Cox Distraction, he offers VAX-D treatment, a procedure developed by Dr. Allan Dyer, which has gained recognition in the United States and Canada. VAX-D boasts a documented success rate of 71% for treating herniated, bulging, and degenerated discs in the lower back. Notably, he received personal training from Dr. Dyer, making him one of the most experienced VAX-D providers in the country.

With the incorporation of VAX-D into his practice, Dr. Schwartz offers a comprehensive approach to a wide range of spinal problems. Furthermore, he distinguishes himself as one of the few chiropractors nationwide who is board-certified in chiropractic neurology and electrodiagnosis. These certifications enable him to conduct electromyography and nerve conduction studies, typically performed by neurologists, to assess the integrity of the spinal and peripheral nerves. By offering these tests in-house, he simplifies the process for his patients, sparing them the need for external referrals and reducing any associated anxiety.

Passionate about education and community engagement, he recently assumed a position as an Adjunct Professor teaching Anatomy and Physiology at the State College of Florida. In his teaching, he incorporates the promotion of healthy lifestyles, aiming to positively influence young adults as they transition into adulthood. He hopes that these concepts will be passed on to future generations.

While chronic spinal problems represent a significant focus of his practice, Dr. Schwartz actively engages in health and prevention initiatives. He regularly conducts workshops on various health-related topics, emphasizing the importance of proactive measures as we age. His philosophy revolves around optimizing bodily function to its fullest potential. He educates his patients on living longer and healthier lives through daily exercise, proper nutrition, a fully functional nervous system, mental reprogramming, and minimizing exposure to harmful chemicals in our immediate environment.

To promote patient education and awareness, he intentionally fills his office with health-related books, magazines, and his own newsletters. Rather than offering mainstream publications like People or Good Housekeeping, he provides resources that focus on health information, the latest research, and pertinent issues related to patients’ well-being.

Driven by the adage, “give a man a fish, he has food for a day; teach him to fish, he has food for a lifetime,” Dr. Schwartz empowers his patients with the knowledge and tools they need for long-term health.

Chiropractic is a form of alternative medicine that mainly deals with the diagnosis and treatment of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, especially the spine. A chiropractor uses spinal adjustments, manipulation, and other techniques to manage patients’ health concerns, including neck pain, back pain, headaches, vertigo and a long list of other ailments and conditions. They aim to improve patients’ functionality and quality of life by properly aligning the body’s musculoskeletal structure and enabling the body to heal itself naturally, without the use of medication or surgery.
