A board-certified general surgeon specializing in advanced GI & minimally invasive surgery, Dr. Blea is in practice at Lovelace Medical Group in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In addition to general surgery his specific clinical interests include minimally invasive, robotic assisted benign foregut surgery and complex abdominal wall reconstruction (hernia repair).

Graduating with his Bachelor of Science degree with a double major in Biology & Biomedical Engineering, Dr. Blea earned his medical degree from the Tufts University School of Medicine. He completed his residency in general surgery at the Tufts Medical Center, and is fellowship trained in advanced gastrointestinal surgery & minimally invasive surgery from Saint Francis Hospital.

As a testament to his success, the doctor is board-certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.

Remaining up to date in his field, Dr. Blea is an active member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, the Society of Laparoscopic Surgeons, and the American Hernia Society.

General surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses on abdominal contents including the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, appendix and bile ducts, and often the thyroid gland. A general surgeon performs a wide range of abdominal surgeries for many forms of intestinal and abdominal wall neoplasms, gallbladder disease, gastric and pancreatic disease. They follow the patient through critical care and surgical recovery all the way to outpatient care.
