Get to know Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Robert Wainer, who serves patients in Greensboro, North Carolina.

With over 20 years of experience in sports medicine and orthopedic surgery, Dr. Wainer specializes in arthroscopy of the knee and shoulder, ACL and meniscus surgery, rotator cuff and ligament surgery, as well as total joint replacement of the knee and hip. He practices with Murphy Wainer Orthopedic Specialists in Greensboro, North Carolina. 

Among his various teaching appointments, he serves as a Clinical Instructor of the Physician Assistants Program at Bowman Gray School of Medicine, a Supervising Orthopedic Surgeon of the Primary Care Fellowship at Moses Cone Family Practice, and an Associate Clinical Professor at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill. 

His community outreach includes Southeast Guilford High School, Northern Guilford High School, Southern Guilford High School, Dudley High School, Smith High School, Page High School, Greensboro Day School, Guilford College, Greensboro Grasshoppers, Wyndham Golf Championship, and US Figure Skating Championships.

In 1984, Dr. Wainer earned his medical degree from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill. He then went on to complete his residency in orthopedic surgery at North Carolina Baptist Hospital and at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Shortly after, he became board-certified in orthopedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons, as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons. 

In addition to being a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the doctor is a member of the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, the North Carolina Orthopedic Association, the North Carolina Medical Society, and the Greensboro Sports Council. 

Orthopedic surgery or orthopedics is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopedic surgeons use both surgical and nonsurgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.
