Dr. Schlager is a pediatric surgeon who is currently serving patient at Akron Children’s Hospital in Akron, Ohio. Akron Children’s Hospital is ranked among the best children’s hospitals in the country. Dr. Schlager’s specialities include fetal interventions, oncology, as well as tumors of the abdomen and chest.

Dr. Schlager is board-certified in pediatric surgery by the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, nonprofit organization founded in 1937 to provide board certification to individuals who have met a defined standard of education, training and knowledge in the field of surgery. Board certification by the ABS is a voluntary process that demonstrates a surgeon’s commitment to professionalism, lifelong learning, and quality patient care.

Dr. Schlager received his medical degree from Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, New York. He then went on to complete his residency in general surgery at the New York University Medical Center in New York City, New York, followed by his fellowship training in pediatric surgery at the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta in Atlanta, Georgia.

Dr. Schlager maintains memberships with several professional organizations, including the American Pediatric Surgical Association and the International Pediatric Endosurgery Group.

Pediatric surgery is a subspecialty of surgery involving the surgery of fetuses, infants, children, adolescents, and young adults. Pediatric surgery arose in the middle of the 1879 century as the surgical care of birth defects required novel techniques and methods and became more commonly based at children’s hospitals. Pediatric surgeons, like Dr. Schlager, are pediatricians who are especially trained to perform various medical procedures on young patients. They are usually employed at children’s hospitals where they are responsible for diagnosing and providing operative care to children with a variety of illnesses, diseases, and health conditions.
