Dr. Todd J. Purkiss, MD, PhD is a top Ophthalmologist | Retina Specialist in Louisville, KY. His interest in ophthalmology, and retina in particular, began when he was in graduate school studying how the human visual system processes information. Following his PhD, Dr. Purkiss attended medical school, finishing in the top 10% of his class. After completing an internship in internal medicine, he pursued a residency in ophthalmology at the University of Louisville capped off by a fellowship in medical retina at the prestigious Duke Eye Center. Dr. Purkiss has been evaluating and treating diseases of the retina and vitreous in the Louisville area since 2009. He is currently a partner in Retina Associates of Kentucky, the largest retina subspecialty group in Kentucky and one of the largest in the region. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Purkiss oversees numerous clinical trials within the practice in his role as Vice President of Research.
