Get to know Vascular Surgeon Dr. Alex Westerband, who serves patients in Phoenix, Arizona.

Dr. Westerband is a board certified vascular surgeon who specializes in the treatment of spider veins using laser/sclerotherapy, the treatment of carotid disease for stroke prevention, the treatment of peripheral arterial disease/aneurysms, the treatment of varicose veins using endovenous ablative procedures, as well as the management of deep vein thrombosis and chronic vein obstructions.

Dr. Westerband earned his medical degree from the University of Haiti – Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy. He then went on to complete his residency in general surgery at Long Island Jewish Medical Center and at Case Western Reserve University Hospitals. He also completed his fellowship training in vascular surgery at the University of Arizona. Furthermore, Dr. Westband earned his Master of Business Administration degree from the George Washington University.

Dr. Westerband is board certified in both surgery and vascular surgery by the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, nonprofit organization founded in 1937 to provide board certification to individuals who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge in the field of surgery.

Dr. Westerband’s primary focus is on varicose veins and associated chronic venous diseases. He has authored or co-authored over 40 peer-reviewed articles. Dr. Westerband is a member of the Society for Vascular Surgery, the Western Vascular Society, the Society of Vascular Ultrasound, as well as the Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Society. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. 

Vascular surgery is a surgical subspecialty in which diseases of the vascular system (arteries, veins and lymphatic vessels) are managed by medical therapy, minimally-invasive catheter procedures, and surgical reconstruction. As a vascular surgeon, Dr. Westerband is trained to evaluate and treat complex diseases of the vascular system with special emphasis in minimal invasive techniques. He enjoys collaborating with patients on a treatment plan that best fits their clinical needs.
