Get to know Epileptologist Dr. Minoo Shams-Moorkani, who serves patients in Minnesota.

A highly trained epileptologist, Dr. Shams is affiliated with M Health Fairview Clinics and Surgery Center, working with patients at their offices in Minneapolis and Maple Grove, Minnesota. 

With a focus on epilepsy and neurology, she is capable of a variety of treatments, including anterior temporal lobectomy, continuous video electroencephalogram, lesionectomy, and vagus nerve stimulation.

Educated in Iran, Dr. Shams graduated with her medical degree from Isfahan University of Medical Sciences. After relocating to the United States, she went on to perform her internship and residency in neurology at West Virginia University, and her fellowship in clinical neurophysiology at Mayo Clinic Foundation.

Subsequent to her education, the doctor attained board certification in neurology and epilepsy through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to serving the professions of psychiatry and neurology.

Licensed to practice medicine in Minnesota, she is affiliated with the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Abbott Northwestern Hospital, and St. Cloud Veterans Affairs Health Care System-St. Cloud.

As for her academic appointment, Dr. Shams serves as an Assistant Professor within the Department of Neurology at the University of Minnesota Medical School.

An epileptologist is an adult or pediatric neurologist who specializes in the treatment of epilepsy. They are experts in epileptic seizures and seizure disorders, anticonvulsants, and special situations involving seizures, such as cases in which all treatment intended to stop seizures has failed and epilepsy (especially poorly controlled epilepsy) in pregnant women.
