Get to know Hospitalist Dr. Shonna L. McGee, who serves patients in Savannah, Georgia.

Dr. McGee is a hospitalist at Memorial Health University Medical Center. She enjoys counseling patients on preventing chronic illness and helping to empower individuals to optimize their personal health goals.

Memorial Health University Medical Center is a 612-bed hospital in Savannah, Georgia. It opened its doors in 1955 and has evolved into the most advanced healthcare provider in the region. It is a regional referral center for heart care, cancer care, trauma care, children’s care, high-risk pregnancies, and high-risk newborn care. The hospital includes the region’s only Level 1 trauma center, the region’s only children’s hospital, and the Savannah campus of Mercer University School of Medicine.

A 2006 graduate of the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine, Dr. McGee went on to complete her residency at Memorial Health University Medical Center from 2007-2010. 

Subsequent to her education, she attained board certification in internal medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Licensed to practice medicine in Georgia, Dr. McGee is affiliated with many hospitals, including Wayne Memorial Hospital, Fairview Park Hospital, Memorial Health Meadows Hospital, and Coastal Carolina Hospital.

Hospital medicine is a medical specialty that exists in some countries as a branch of family medicine or internal medicine, dealing with the care of acutely ill hospitalized patients. Physicians whose primary professional focus is caring for hospitalized patients only while they are in the hospital are called hospitalists.

Among Dr. McGee’s various accolades include Patients’ Choice Award (2018), On-Time Doctor Award (2018), and Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2018).
