Forester, MD, is a Geriatric Psychiatrist and Chief of the Division of Geriatric Psychiatry at McLean Hospital and Medical Director for Behavioral Health in the Center for Population Health Management at Partners HealthCare. Dr. Brent P. Forester is a highly respected and experienced physician, having been in practice for many years. His career in medicine began in 1992 when he graduated with his Medical Degree from Dartmouth Medical School. After medical school, Dr. Forester completed his internship with Massachusetts General Hospital followed by his residency in Adult Psychiatry at McLean Hospital. Driven to further his expertise and knowledge, he undertook his fellowship at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. Dr. Forester has dedicated his life to geriatric psychiatry, specializing in the treatment of older adults with depression, bipolar disorder, and behavioral complications of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. He is a member of the American Psychiatric Association and has served on the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry and the Alzheimer’s Association of Massachusetts/New Hampshire. His research focuses on the use of brain imaging techniques and clinical assessment to understand the causes of depression and bipolar disorder later in life. Dr. Forester keeps current with the newest developments, guidelines, and procedures in his field leading the Geriatric Psychiatry Research Program, founded in 2000, and the Geriatric Mood Disorders Research Program, founded in 2005. Psychology is the science of behavior and mind, including conscious and unconscious phenomena, as well as feeling and thought. It is an academic discipline of immense scope and diverse interests that, when taken together, seek an understanding of the emergent properties of brains, and all the variety of epiphenomena they manifest. As a social science it aims to understand individuals and groups by establishing general principles and researching specific cases.
