A skilled orthopedic surgeon with a focus on sports medicine, Dr. Krcik is affiliated with Mercyhealth, seeing patients with a variety of musculoskeletal injuries and conditions at Mercyhealth Crystal Lake South and Mercyhealth McHenry in Illinois. His philosophy of care is centered around taking the time to discuss options with each patient and their long-term outcome as it relates to their individual goals.
In his clinical role, he specializes in pediatric sports-related injuries, such as pediatric ACL tears, non-sports-related pediatric trauma, young athletes’ throwing injuries, hockey injuries, and fracture management. He is also certified in ImPACT, which stands for Immediate Post-concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing, a tool used to assess the severity of concussions and help determine when it is safe for athletes to return to play.
Academically, Dr. Krcik received his medical education at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield and completed his internship at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. He then went on to complete a residency in internal medicine/pediatrics at Rush Medical Center in Chicago, followed by an orthopedic surgery residency at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland.
Wanting to further his education in the field, he completed fellowships in primary care sports medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation and in orthopedic sports medicine at Children’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School in Boston.
Passionate about his profession, the doctor is board-certified in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons.
Maintaining fellowship status, Dr. Krcik is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (FAAOS), and Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (FAAP).
Throughout his career, he has extensive experience working with sports teams, having served as Head Team Physician for Cleveland State University and Baldwin Wallace College, as well as an Assistant Team Doctor for the Cleveland Browns, the Cleveland Cavaliers, and the Northeastern University men’s hockey team.
