Dr. Luciano is an adept neonatologist working within the Maternal, Fetal & Neonatal Institute at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida, which he joined in 2020. He serves as Medical Director of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Division Chief of Newborn Medicine. 

His clinical interests include management of complex medical patients, and his research interests include neonatal immunity and medical education. Dr. Luciano was most recently with AdventHealth, caring for patients in several of the hospital system’s neonatal intensive care units (NICU), and before that, at Tampa General Hospital’s NICU.

Scholastically, Dr. Luciano earned his Medical Degree from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine. He then completed a pediatric residency at University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, and a fellowship in neonatology at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital/Case Western Reserve University, in Cleveland. 

Furthering his expertise, Dr. Luciano completed a postdoctoral immunology research fellowship at Case Western Reserve University, and earned a Master of Science Degree in Medical Education Leadership from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford, Maine.

Board certified in neonatal-perinatal medicine and pediatrics, Dr. Luciano is recognized as a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP). The mission of the ABP is to advance child health by certifying pediatricians who meet standards of excellence and are committed to continuous learning and improvement.

Neonatology is a subspecialty of pediatrics that consists of the medical care of newborn infants, especially ill or premature newborns. It is a hospital-based specialty and is usually practiced in neonatal intensive care units. Neonatologists generally diagnose and treat newborns with conditions such as breathing disorders, infections, and birth defects, as well as coordinating care and medically managing newborns born prematurely, critically ill, or in need of surgery.
