How long can a partial denture last?
Indefinitely, as long as the anchor teeth holding the partial remain in good shape. Partials are usually replaced because of work needed on the anchor teeth cause the existing partial to not fit anymore. Over time the partial may wear or discolor, but that depends on the patient's eating and cleaning habits and there is a wide range for that. I have patients with 30 year old partials and some patients get new ones more frequently. READ MORE

Do gums grow around implants?
I can answer that in many different contexts. Generally, implants are placed through the gums into bone. The bone is what secures the implant in place. The gums will adhere to the metal of the implant to form something like a seal around the implant. That seal needs to be kept very clean, otherwise bacteria can break the seal and cause an infection. What are the disadvantages of having dentures?
Number one, dentures are not teeth. Dentures are resin prostheses that look like teeth. They are removable and many times even good fitting dentures, move during function. This movement can make eating and speaking difficult. Also, because they can move they may create painful sores in the mouth. Sometimes the remedy is a simple adjustment or the use of denture paste. Other times dental implants may need to be placed to secure the denture from moving. READ MORE
How long does a blood clot last after tooth extraction?
The blood clot is the bone's way to heal itself from the extraction. The blood clot actually will turn into bone over the next 6 to 12 weeks. So, it will last about that amount of time. The surrounding gingival tissue slowly grows over the blood clot and protects the clot and new forming bone. That process usually takes 1 to 2 weeks to cover the clot. Bruce Goldman, D.M.D. READ MORE

General dentists provide a wide array of services that are vital to patients’ continued health. These services include: preventive services, including helping to maintain good oral health by stopping disease before it takes hold in the mouth; restorative services, such as receiving timely and appropriate treatment when a problem is identified; as well as cosmetic services, including performing a range of cosmetic procedures, such as teeth whitening, cosmetic bonding, and even porcelain veneers. General dentists also address overall health concerns as oral health is seen as the mirror of general health.
