Get to know General Surgeon Dr. Angelito O. Arago, who serves patients in West New York, New Jersey.

Dr. Arago is the Director of Surgery at Hackensack Meridian Health - Palisades Medical Center. Located in North Bergen, the center serves a population of 450,000 in Hudson and Southern Bergen counties. It is part of the Hackensack Meridian Health Network.

Dr. Arago is also affiliated with Christ Hospital, which is one of the six hospitals in Hudson County, New Jersey. It is operated by the for-profit organization Hudson Hospital Opco, known as Care Point Health.

Dr. Arago received his medical degree from the University of Santo Tomas - Faculty of Medicine and Surgery in Manila, Philippines. Thereafter, he went on to complete his residency at the Jersey City Medical Center in Jersey City, New Jersey.

Dr. Arago is board-certified in surgery by the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, nonprofit organization founded in 1937 to provide board certification to individuals who have met a defined standard of education, training and knowledge in the field of surgery. Surgeons certified by the ABS, known as diplomates, have completed at least 5 years of residency training following medical school, met all ABS training requirements, and successfully completed the ABS examination process.

Dr. Arago is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). The letters FACS after a surgeon’s name mean that the surgeon’s education and training, professional qualifications, surgical competence, and ethical conduct have passed a rigorous evaluation, and have been found to be consistent with the high standards established and demanded by the College.

General surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses on abdominal contents including the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, appendix and bile ducts, and often the thyroid gland. Throughout his forty years of practice as a general surgeon, Dr. Arago has accrued extensive expertise in gastrointestinal surgery, including gallbladder and colon surgery.

Dr. Arago maintains a professional membership with the Hudson County Medical Society, whose mission is to promote the betterment of the public health and the science and art of medicine; to enlighten public opinion in regard to the problems of medicine; as well as to safeguard the rights of the practitioners of medicine.

Dr. Arago attributes his success to love and dedication. Every year, he does mission trips to remote areas of the Philippines.
