In regards to his educational background, Dr. Ortega-Legaspi graduated with his medical degree and Doctor of Philosophy degree from the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico in 2008 and 2010, respectively. He then went on to complete his residency in internal medicine at Emory University in 2013, before completing a fellowship in cardiovascular disease at the University of Washington in 2016, and a fellowship in advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in 2018.
An expert in his field, the doctor is board-certified in advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology, cardiovascular disease, and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
Additionally, Dr Ortega-Legaspi has focused part of his practice to seeing patients with end stage congenital heart disease who need advanced heart failure therapies (heart transplantation or mechanical circulatory support). He collaborates closely with specialists in adult congenital heart disease as well as pediatric cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery.
