Why is my dental bridge hurting?
If the bridge just started hurting, there may be some decay or tooth brush abrasion occurring. Hopefully you have been seeing your dentists regularly for cleanings and checkups which would have caught these problems sooner. If there was a large cavity on one of the abutment teeth, which was removed prior to the bridge installation, this tooth may now need a root canal. See your dentist as soon as possible to for a thorough exam and X-rays to help determine the cause. READ MORE
Can you eat normally with a dental bridge?
You should be able to eat normally. Normal, however, does not mean chewing on very hard foods such as ice. This could damage the bridge by fracturing off porcelain. It also depends on what the bridge is made from. Some materials are more resistant to fracture than others. John C. Kaminski, D.D.S. READ MORE
My child accidentally ate toothpaste. What should I do?
Swallowing toothpaste can cause stomach upset as well as other health issues if done consistently. If you notice her doing this often, switching to a non-fluoridated tooth paste would be a good idea. When you see her swallow the fluoridated toothpaste, you can have her drink a glass of milk which will bind to the fluoride she just swallowed. If she doesn't like milk, have her chew and swallow 1 - 2 TUMS tablets which will also bind to the fluoride. John C. Kaminski D.D.S. READ MORE
When should I consider porcelain veneers?
If your teeth aren't heavily restored, orthodontics may be a viable option. This is also an option before veneers if the teeth are severely malposed. Porcelain veneers can fix some rotations but remember that after teeth are veneered, they still need to be cleanable. Porcelain veneers are one of the most cosmetic procedures in dentistry. When done right and properly maintained, they can provide you with a beautiful smile for many years to come. John C. Kaminski, D.D.S. READ MORE
