  • Can you put veneers over crowns?

HI! You actually can! Although this is rare, there are special times when you would rather do this than replace a crown. Normally, if veneers are done on a patient, the crown would be replaced with a new crown that matches the look, shape, shade, and material of the veneers. READ MORE

  • How do you floss a permanent crown?

Hi! A permanent crown would be flossed just like a regular tooth, between the tooth a gum line, into the gum line while hugging the tooth like a C-shape with the floss, and scrapping gently up. I have a video on this on my instagram - @vidadentistry! READ MORE

  • Can you close a gap without braces?

Yes! There are a few ways of doing this: Invisalign, with two little fillings between the teeth that match your teeth, and with veneers! READ MORE

  • How long do you have to eat soft foods after dental implants?

Hi! It really depends, but if it's one implant, I would for a few days just due to the healing of the surgical site. Hope this helps! READ MORE

  • Do dental implants prevent bone loss?

They can definitely due to the fact that the bone will be in use and pressure will be placed on the surrounding bone so it won't be resorbed. But we also have to keep in mind that if not properly kept clean, or if the implant fails and develops an infection, bone can be lost surrounding it. READ MORE

  • What is the best toothpaste to restore enamel?

HI! I would really recommend the toothpaste I have at my office, Fluoridex® Sensitivity Relief SLS Free Toothpaste- Clean Mint. It has prescription strength fluoride. READ MORE

  • Does having braces strengthen your teeth?

Yes in a way, if done correctly it can help in the long run to help ensure that other issues do not occur, such as gum disease caused by crowding. Invisalign can also help correct the issues that braces help correct. READ MORE

  • What age should a child start having dental cleanings?

Hi! I would recommend taking her to see the dentist for the first time now. Normally, babies should start seeing a pediatric dentist at the first sign of a baby tooth erupting. It is better they get checked to ensure that everything is developing correctly and in a healthy way. READ MORE

  • Is having a dry socket dangerous?

Hi! I am so sorry to hear that. Whereas a healing dry socket is not exactly dangerous on its own, just very painful, it can become dangerous if the dry socket is or becomes infected. I would recommend following your dentists instructions, continue managing the pain, and flushing out the area carefully and gently with saline water stream over it. If it the socket doesn't seem to be getting better or feels more painful, I would definitely contact the doctor that removed the tooth and have a post op check to insure that it didn't get infected and that it is healing properly. • What does it mean if your tooth hurts when you touch it?

Hi! That is difficult to answer, simply because I do not know the other clues that we dentists sometimes use to gauge and diagnose during an exam, like an xray or other tooth vitality tests. I also am not sure or what kind of pain you are having. More than likely, there may be an inflammation or infection in the periodontal ligament surrounding your tooth, either from the tooth itself or your gums and because when you touch the tooth, the ligament is pressured so it radiates pain. This could mean that you have a deep cavity, or that the tooth has had trauma, or theres a local gum infection. It could even be that you are sensitive from grinding on that tooth more heavily than the rest. Because this pain can be from so many different things I would suggest you go visit a dentist (or come in to see me) so that we can check what is really causing this pain. READ MORE

  • I think I have infected soft pulp tissue in my back tooth. What's the treatment for this?

Hi! I am unsure what you mean by "infected soft pulp tissue" but I am going to assume you mean that a cavity has reached your pulp and therefore infected the nerve tissue in your molar. When this happens, your doctor will confirm with an xray as well as "endo pulp tests" to see if the nerve has really been infected and whether or not the inflammation and pain is reversible or not. If it has infected your pulp, a root canal treatment will more likely than not be recommended, taking into consideration other factors seem during this exam. Following this, usually a restoration will be placed on the tooth to restore the tooth back to structure and function, like a crown and build up. Hope this helps! READ MORE

  • What is the fastest way to heal swollen gums?

Hi! Treatment for this would depend on the diagnosis, and what kind of swelling you are experiencing, if it is due to just inflammation of the gingiva or if its also advanced into periodontal inflammation and bone loss. Fastest way would be to have a professional cleaning, and continue flossing and brushing in a way that your gums are always cleaned at the gum line. Warm salt water rinses would also help with the healing process. Usually, the swelling is more than likely due to plaque or calculus (or bacterial debris) at the gum line, causing irritation and inflammatory process to occur. Hope this helps! READ MORE

  • Can brushing your teeth help a toothache?

Hi! Brushing your teeth can definitely keep toothaches away, or help with overall sensitivity if you are brushing with a fluoride toothpaste, but it will more than likely not solve the issue of why your one tooth is hurting. It the pain remains. I would recommend seeing a dentist in order to get to the root cause of why that tooth is hurting. Teeth usually hurt because there is some sort of inflammation occurring, either internally in the pulp and nerves or around it at the periodontal ligament. I hope this helps! READ MORE

  • Can a cracked tooth cause ear pain?

Hi! Most definitely. Tooth pain sometimes can radiate up the jaw, face and neck depending on the severity. If the tooth is cracked to the core and therefore to the pulpal nerve inside, an infection can occur and spread from the nerve to the jaw. I would recommend visiting a dentist that can help treat you and hopefully heal all your pain. READ MORE

  • I have tooth loss at the age of 34. Is it normal?

HI, I am sorry to hear this. My question is, is this a "baby" tooth that fell out, or an adult tooth with root and all? I ask because sometimes baby teeth are retained and then fall out much later in life. If this tooth is an adult tooth although, I would not say this is normal. I would recommend a dental check-up to see what is the reason that it came out, such as a severe gum infection that caused this tooth to get loose and fall out naturally. READ MORE

  • My daughter's milk teeth have still not fallen. What is the normal age?

Hi! Usually at the age of 6-7 years, baby teeth (beginning with the bottom front two) start falling out. Some children though may begin shedding baby teeth a year or two later. Either way, I would recommend you take her to your dentist for a check-up to make sure there is not an abnormality or cause for them to not be starting to get loose. Hope this helps! READ MORE

  • One of my incisors is longer than the other. I'm ready to fix this, but how?

Hi! There are usually two options for changing the shape of a healthy tooth, one being adding a resin (white) and matching filling to the edge of the tooth and bonding it, and the other would be by adding a thin beautiful porcelain veneer that is symmetrically shaped to the other incisor and bonding it. Both are beautiful enhancements that are not invasive, and more than likely don't require numbing. READ MORE

  • Can a root canal be performed under general anesthesia?

Hi! There are some dentists that perform sedation dentistry and they can definitely help you for deeper anesthesia. Normally, although we would give an anxious patient nitrous oxide sedation to calm their nerves, I would recommend seeking out a dentist that you feel more comfortable with that can provide at least the nitrous gas. Hope this helps! READ MORE
