Get to know Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr. Craig Richard Bennett, who serves patients in Tampa, Florida.
Dr. Bennett is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in general orthopaedic surgery, including joint replacements such as the hips, knees and shoulders, sports injuries, fracture care, wrist and hand conditions, as well as disorders of the spine. He currently serves as one of the practicing physicians at The Center for Bone and Joint Disease in Tampa, Florida.
The Center for Bone and Joint Disease has been serving the Tampa Bay community for more than four decades, with Dr. Peter Tyler opening the practice in 1972. There are currently nine orthopaedic surgeons, a physiatrist, a podiatrist, and thirteen physician assistants and nurse practitioners in their four office locations. The Center for Bone and Joint Disease’s physicians are all board-certified in orthopaedics or podiatry and have received specialized fellowship training in areas such as hand surgery, sports medicine, and spinal injuries, to name a few.
After earning his Bachelor of Arts degree with high distinction from the University of Virginia, Dr. Bennett went on to obtain his medical degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville, Virginia. He completed his internship in general surgery and his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Chicago Hospitals, followed by his fellowship in spinal surgery at the Hospital for Joint Diseases New York University.
While at the University of Virginia, he was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha and the Pre-Medical Honor Society. He was also awarded the Alpha Epsilon Delta Scholarship and received Intermediate Honors.
In order to stay up to date in his field, the doctor is board-certified in orthopaedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopaedic residents and surgeons, as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopaedic surgeons.
Throughout his career, Dr. Bennett’s research has been published and he has given many national and local presentations about his work.
