Being a board-certified allergist and immunologist, Dr. Schwindt’s expertise includes the diagnosis and treatment of asthma, environmental and food allergies, eczema, as well as primary immunodeficiencies. She sees pediatric and adult patients for her specialty at Hoag Health Center – Newport Beach in California, which is a part of Hoag Medical Group.

“I love interacting with my patients and empowering them with knowledge and medical care options to create the best care plan for them,” expressed Dr. Schwindt. Having always wanted to become a physician to help others, Dr. Schwindt’s acclaimed career in medicine began after she earned her medical degree from the  St. Louis University School of Medicine. Upon graduation, she went on to complete her internship, residency, and fellowship training at the St. Louis University Group of Hospitals.

Since then, she has also been involved with many research projects that focused on understanding the environmental factors that may influence the increase in asthma. “Having allergies can seriously impact the quality of life for patients, from having nasal allergies that make you feel like you have a cold every day to life-threatening food allergies. Controlling and managing these disease states can significantly improve health, well-being, and how one lives their life” explained Dr. Schwindt.

A Fellow of the American Academy of Allergy Asthma and Immunology (FAAAAI) and a Fellow of the American College of Asthma, Allergy & Immunology (FACAAI), she is board-certified by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology (ABAI). She is the principal investigator on many research projects, including from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), and the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD). She has developed an asthma clinic in St. Vincent and the Grenadines in the West Indies and volunteers her time performing medical missions to the island.

The field of allergy and immunology involves the management of disorders related to the immune system. These conditions range from the very common to the very rare, spanning all ages and encompassing various organ systems. An allergist and immunologist is a physician specially trained to diagnose, treat, and manage allergies, asthma, and immunologic disorders, including primary immunodeficiency.
