Get to know Gastroenterologist Dr. Rajesh M. Mehta, who serves patients in Austin, Texas.

Dr. Mehta is a practicing gastroenterologist who sees patients at his private practice – Lone Star Gastroenterology – in Austin, Texas. “I care for my patients as if they were family. I also believe in up-to-date, advanced medicine and technology, because what the mind doesn’t know, the eye doesn’t see.”

Locally, he is affiliated with St. David’s North Austin Medical Center, St. David’s South Austin Medical Center, St. David’s Medical Center, The Hospital at Westlake Medical Center, Dell Seton Medical Center at The University of Texas, Ascension Seton Northwest Hospital, Ascension Seton Southwest Hospital, and Dell Children’s Medical Center.

Back in the early days of his academic career, Dr. Mehta graduated with his medical degree from M. P. Shah Medical College, Jamnagar in India in 1978. He then went on to perform his internship at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in 1984, his residency in internal medicine at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County in 1987, and his fellowship in gastroenterology at the Wayne State University School of Medicine in 1991.

With over four decades of experience, the doctor is board-certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Continuously advancing his efforts, Dr. Mehta is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association, the American College of Physicians, the American College of Gastroenterology, the Travis County Medical Society, and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.

Gastroenterology is the branch of medicine focused on the digestive system and its disorders. A gastroenterologist is a physician who has extensive training in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders related to the esophagus, stomach, small intestines, colon, liver, pancreas, and biliary system.

For nine straight years, Dr. Mehta received the “Best Gastroenterologist in the Ohio Valley” award in his previous practice in Gastroenterology/Hepatology, and served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at West Virginia University School of Medicine in Morgantown, West Virginia.

On a more personal note, he and his wife, who is also a physician, have three children. He enjoys table tennis, racquetball, squash, and outdoor activities. He speaks English, Hindi, Gujarati, and Spanish.
