Get to know Family Physician Dr. Leonard M. Finn, who serves patients in Needham, Massachusetts.

Dr. Finn is a respected, board-certified family physician whose clinical interests include preventive medicine, wellness programs, and optimal chronic disease management. Having been practicing in his field for over 30 years, he opened Needham Wellesley Family Medicine in 2010.

Alongside his clinical role, Dr. Finn teaches medical students and residents in family medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, Tufts University School of Medicine, and Boston University School of Medicine, as well as physician assistant students from Northeastern University. In addition to in-office teaching, he presents continuing medical education lectures to practicing family physicians.

Committed to excellence, the doctor is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Massachusetts Academy of Family Physicians, and the Massachusetts Medical Society. He also works with the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American Cancer Society to develop national guidelines for preventive medicine. 

Growing up in Maine and Massachusetts, Dr. Finn earned his medical degree from the University of Massachusetts Medical School in 1974. He then went on to serve his residency in family medicine at Worcester City Hospital.

Before long, he became board-certified in family medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine, a non-profit, independent medical association of American physicians who practice in family medicine and its sub-specialties.

Family medicine is a medical specialty devoted to comprehensive health care for people of all ages. The specialist is called a family physician or family doctor. A family physician is often the first person a patient sees when seeking healthcare services. They examine and treat patients with a wide range of conditions and refer those with serious ailments to a specialist or appropriate facility. 

An author, educator, and leader, Dr. Finn has won numerous awards, including Distinguished Service Awards from Massachusetts and American Academies of Family Physicians & First Prize for a Scientific Paper by a Practicing Physician from the American Academy of Family Physicians.

Married with two daughters, he enjoys kayaking, mountain climbing, cross-country skiing, as well as reading books, listening to music, and watching movies when he is not working.
